INEOS Britannia, led by Sir Ben Ainslie, is the Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup and was the British Challenger to the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland in 2021.

INEOS is supporting INEOS Britannia as the team aims to make history by bringing the America’s Cup back to Britain for the first time in its 170-year history.

America's Cup Challengers

Referred to as Formula 1 on water, the America’s Cup is the oldest trophy in sport. Although the first race took place around the Isle of Wight, it has never been won by a British challenger. Sir Ben Ainslie and the team are doing all they can to change this and make history by winning the 37th America’s Cup.

INEOS products in the America’s Cup

We produce some of the key chemicals and compounds that go into the AC75, a 75ft foiling monohull which has been created for the 37th America’s Cup. Products include acrylonitrile that is essential for carbon fibre which is used for the boat and the sails, the solvents that go into making paint for the boat, to polystyrene in helmets worn by the sailors and intermediates that are used in fast drying lycra, within sports glasses, and oligomers in the synthetic oils that prevent wear and tear under the harshest of conditions.

Mercedes-Benz Applied Science
