INEOS Energy operates a number of key producing offshore assets across the UK and Danish parts of the North Sea along with onshore assets in South Texas, USA.
At INEOS Energy, we take our responsibility for Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) very seriously. We continually strive to promote safe and reliable operations and continually exceed expectations on each of these operational performance targets.
Excellence in safety, health and environmental performance is our top priority and we are open and honest about such performance, whilst making sure we adhere to the strict regulations that are set by both the regulator and national environment agencies. Our goal when we acquire any new asset is to first ensure the safety of operations is addressed and improved in any which way possible.
To achieve our objective of “zero injuries”, INEOS Energy requires all employees and contractors who work under our control to adhere and contribute to the ongoing development of our strict safety, health and environmental standards and procedures. By making safety, health and the environment an integral part of our business we encourage a culture of continuous improvement across all activities in all locations.
Our employees work according to a strong safety culture founded on our 7 lifesaving rules and 20 guiding principles – 10 based on human factors which we have named behavioural safety and 10 on process safety.
Our commitment to safety starts at the top, with the Executive Board being responsible for safety performance. All employees and contractors receive extensive safety training, participate in safety teams, contribute to incident learning and suggest ongoing improvements in safety standards and procedures.
Everyone has responsibility for ensuring a safe working environment for themselves and their co-workers and speaking up about safety issues is encouraged. This extends to incentivising employees to report near misses. We can learn from these and put in place corrective action to ensure such incidents are never repeated.
Systems and operational procedures have safety built in to ensure our facilities are being operated properly. Any changes in processes or procedures are subject to a risk assessment and, if necessary, a hazard study to analyse any potential safety risks or impacts. We have strict emergency response procedures and if required, the facilities will be shut down completely until an issue can be fully resolved.
The success of our business depends on ensuring a safe environment for our staff and the contractors who work with us, which is why safety is a key value in the whole of the INEOS business.
