INOVYN confirms closure of last remaining mercury cellroom at Runcorn Site

Group-news.jpg

Further to the announcement in 2015 regarding the suspension of the last remaining mercury cellroom at Runcorn Site (“J Unit”), INOVYN has today confirmed that closure of this unit will now proceed.

This is as a result of the successful completion earlier this year of the extended reliability testing on the Membrane Chlorine Plant at Runcorn Site.

This closure is in line with EU requirements to cease all mercury chlorine production by the end of 2017, and follows earlier closure of two mercury units at the site in 2006 and 2008 respectively.

Final closure is expected to be complete by early 2017 followed by full decontamination and decommissioning activities.

Other INOVYN production assets at Runcorn Site and elsewhere remain unaffected.
