Refineries are physically integrated with petrochemical plants located at the same sites and are unusual by European standards in that both combine a hydrocracker (HC) with a fluidised catalytic cracker (FCC). The combination of these two units enables the manufacture of light, low sulphur gasoline and bias production towards middle distillates, principally diesel, consistent with market demand.
