History

 1949 Naphtachimie, Lavéra created by 3 partners: Pechiney, Kuhlmann and SGHP (first company name of BP in France).

 1953 Lavéra: Start-up of the first cracker – capacity 10 ktpa.

 1956 HDPE production unit starts at Rosignano
 1957 Köln site founded as "EC-Erdölchemie", a JV of BP and Bayer.

 1958 The first polyethylene plant using the "Ziegler" process commissions at Lavéra.

 1959 Polyethylene production starts at Grangemount
 1966 Lavéra: Start-up of cracker n°3 – capacity 100 ktpa.


 1967 Geel site is established.

 1968 Grangemouth: G4 cracker commissioned.

 1970 Köln: Start-up of cracker n°4.

 1972 Lavéra: Start up of cracker n° 4 – capacity 400 ktpa.

 1975
New PE plants using a gas phase process, designed by a Lavéra research team opens

 1976 Polypropylene Production (PP1) starts at Geel, using "Slurry Technology Awarded : European Clean Technology Prize (Winner) for its Gas Phase Project at Lavéra.

 1978 Köln: Start-up of cracker n°5.

 1991 Lavéra: Cracker n°4 further debottlenecked to 700 ktpa.

 1993

Grangemouth: Train 1 KG cracker commissioned.

Joint venture is agreed for all PE activities between BP and Solvay
BP acquires of the Solvay PP business.

 2001 Köln: BP took over the Bayer share of the EC-Erdölchemie JV and company changed name to BP Köln.
Grangemouth: Train 2 KG cracker commissioned.

 2002 Köln: Ethane cracker line commissioned.

 2004 BP acquires PE business from Solvay
 2005 BP renames olefins & derivatives and refining businesses as Innovene.
INEOS acquires Innovene.

 2006 INEOS Olefins and INEOS Polyolefins are formed as separate business units.
 2007 INEOS acquires Borealis AS and 50% of Noretyl Cracker at Rafnes.
 2008 INEOS acquires Hydro Polymers and the remaining 50% share of the Noretyl Cracker at Rafnes from Norsk Hydro.
Olefins & Polyolefins businesses are combined to create INEOS O & P Europe.
